10 things to in the UAE this week

We’re spreading our wings from Dubai this week as National Day brings a long weekend and an excuse to explore the UAE. Hotel stays, foodie picks and even some horse riding is on our to-do list.

Al Wadi Equestrian Adventure Centre – Ras Al Khaimah
This place sits on the edges of Wadi Khadeja, so when you visit the centre you’ll have access to one of Ras Al Khaimah’s beautiful natural reserves. It offers horse riding lessons to suit all skill levels, so even if you’ve never managed to master a trot you can still get involved. Those who fancy some impressive Instagram snaps should opt for a desert ride on a horse or camel. The centre is even worth a visit if horse riding isn’t your thing – it’s full of goats, geese, ducks and cats roaming around, so it’s a chance for the family to get close to nature.

Tiesto has been at the forefront of dance music for two decades, having cruised through different dance music genres over the years. In 2005 he released “Adagio for Strings” from his album, Just Be, which has gone down in music history. Mixmag readers voted it the second greatest dance record of all time. The top DJ will play at Dubai World Trade Centre in Sheikh Rashid Hall on National Day with support from Stephen Grandi and Hollaphonic. Tickets are AED275.

Cinema – Allied (18)
Brad Pitt seems to have found a cinematic home amid the grey-blue rubble of World War Two in recent years. The darkly comic Inglourious Basterds and the claustrophobic Fury is now followed by Allied, a lavish, slightly soapy tale of a strained romance between a Canadian intelligence officer in Morocco and a French resistance fighter. The role of the latter is filled by Marion Cotillard, whose hair seems permanently waved in period styles, too. Sweeping and long, it’s ideal matinée melodrama material.
In cinemas from November 24
