BASE grand opening
The electronic icon will be behind the decks at BASE in Dubai Design District for a huge launch party. The 39-year-old DJ found fame as part of the now defunct super-group Swedish House Mafia, but these days he’s a headliner in his own right. Tracks such as “Feel The Vibe” and “I Found You” have become floor-fillers, and he has remixed tracks for some of the biggest names in the business such as Madonna and Usher.

Eddie Izzard
The Yemen-born British comedian and endless marathon runner will be bringing his unique brand of rambling, sort-of-historical one-man-show-style comedy to Dubai. It’s less stand-up and more performance, a two-hour absurdist rumination on life, philosophy, religion and makeup, all shot through with impressions and strange tangents. As you get gradually drawn into his world, you really won’t know where the time has gone.

P4BLO & Floyd Lavine at House of Afrika

Ghost in the Shell (18)
Another film that reaches our screens with a casting controversy overshadowing every scene – and already the producers are blaming it for lackluster box office returns in the US instead of the fact that it’s simply not quite as good as it could be. Based on the Manga creation of the same name, the conspicuously non-Japanese Scarlett Johansson – which wasn’t an issue in Japan itself, incidentally – takes the lead as the part human, part cyborg soldier. Race aside, she is undeniably excellent, even if she can’t quite elevate the stiffness around her.
In cinemas from April 20
