12 of the weirdest things ever sold on Dubizzle

Published

on

Dubizzle is, of course, the region’s classified advertising leader, with thousands of items uploaded to the site every day from top-of-the-range Mercedes to exercise bikes and DJ decks. But it’s the oddities we’re always drawn to, the items that require a healthy dose of optimism – or maybe even delusion – from the seller to even post. Like these…

1. Boeing 747
Asking price: AED16,530,300
You have to wonder what other avenues the seller went down before deciding to post his 1970s passenger plane on a classified ads website. Collect only, we assume.

2. Bulletproof car
Asking price: AED1,000
At the low, low price of AED1,000, this Toyota Land Cruiser is already a steal. Add in the bulletproofing that likely cost ten times this amount, and you’ve got a bargainous sweet ride that will survive that hail of hot lead on the way to do your weekly shop.

3. Wardrobe contents
Asking price:  Free
The fallout from a broken relationship resulted in someone trying to shift their ex-wife’s expensive clothing and accessories for free… which must’ve been cathartic. For him.

4. The services of a private detective
Asking price: N/A
The image shows an eagle atop a duck, which immediately makes you think someone is illegally selling birds. On closer inspection, though, the ad is for what we assume is an amateur private investigator who promises – and we quote – “to find where your husband and where your son go”. Quite.

5. Flux capacitor
Asking price: AED100,000
The device responsible for sending Marty and Doc Brown through space and time is, of course, pure fiction. But this painstakingly accurate replica does look great.Which we’d expect at that price.

6. Golden pacifier
Asking price: AED3,500
Judging by the amount of stuff that toddlers lose, hide or simply destroy, we can’t think of anything more idiotic to pop in their mouths than a pacifier with a solid gold handle. You may as well give them a wad of cash to tear up.

7. Free car
Asking price:  AED0-AED3,500
This ad takes you on quite the journey. From the off, there’s a car being given away for free. It’s a battered Volkswagen Polo, but a free car is not to be sniffed at. But then the ad asks for a security deposit of AED3,500. Soooo, it’s not free? We’re confused.

8. Plastic bottle scrap
Asking price: AED1
We’re not entirely sure whether a single, shiny dirham gets you one plastic bottle or a metric ton of them. We don’t want either, obviously. But we’re interested to know whether anyone took them up on this one-of-a-kind deal.

9. TRON light cycle
Asking price: AED165,000
This isn’t a prop from the popular Disney movie, it’s a faithful recreation of the futuristic bike that’s actually street legal. Building a matching neon race suit and finding a grid game to do battle on is totally optional.

10. Golden frog figurine
Asking price: AED3,672,950
What’s so special about this gaudy, yet laid back amphibian, you may ask? Well, the seller seems to think it’s a lucky charm that helped him find a better job and secure his financial future. But if it’s really worth millions, why didn’t he just sell it in the first place? And if you’ve got AED3 million to spend on a frog, why do you need it?

11. Amphibious limousine
Asking price: AED15,000,000
Do you often ride in your limousine and then despair when you have to get out before boarding your yacht? Annoying, right? This vehicle will make your life much easier as the 12-person limo can cruise on both land and sea.

12. Pokémon GO account
Asking price: AED15,000
The point of Pokemon GO is to get people walking around to find rare creatures via augmented reality. So you have to wonder just how lazy someone must be to even consider forking out this much cash for a legendary account they didn’t work for.
