You can now rent a goldfish at this Dubai resort
Travelling alone can be challenging; there’s no one to remind you take your wallet, no one to physically talk to and sometimes it can be quite lonely.
Well, all this is more or less going to change thanks to The Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina’s latest initiative.
The five-star resort is now giving guests the chance to request their own goldfish. That’s right, companionship in the form of another living being.
And, while the concept might seem a bit strange, it works. Pets have been known to elevate stress and combat depression for years now.
“All people report feeling less lonely in the presence of animals – even birds. Animals are good for everyone, but particularly for anxious and depressed people. For one thing, pets keep us anchored in the present and distract us from negative or anxious thoughts,” says Alan Beck, the director of the Center for the Human-Animal Bond at Purdue University.
Further studies have found that that pets help those suffering from anxiety and depression focus on the present, as they have to pay attention and care for the animal.
The Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina’s initiative comes just one month after a hotel in Belgium made headlines for allowing its guests to rent a goldfish for just over AED10 (£3) a night.
So, there you have it. You can now rent a goldfish to keep you company during your next visit to The Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina.
We wonder how long it is going to take until companion puppies and kittens become a thing.
