If you’re thinking of visiting the Dubai Creek or are heading to the airport this Friday, you may want to give yourself a bit more time to get there.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has just announced that it will be closing Al Maktoum Bridge for routine maintenance checks.

The closure will start on Friday, October 27, and will take place every Friday from 1am to 9am until November 24.

Speaking on the news, the Director of Roads and Facilities Maintenance at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, Nazim Faisal said: “RTA attaches great importance to maintaining assets and facilities by performing the required periodic preventive maintenance.”

He added: “The tentative operation would be undertaken after the completion of all routine, preventive and corrective maintenance of various electro-mechanical systems and a final inspection would be carried out to ensure the effective operation and safety of the facility and its users.”

If you’re new to Dubai and are now in somewhat of a panic, fear not. There are alternative routes you can take.

According to Faisal, the traffic from Al Maktoum Bridge will be diverted to several routes such as Al Shandagha Tunnel, Al Garhoud Bridge and the Business Bay Crossing as well as the exit points of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

“The RTA confirms that the alternative routes are capable of accommodating the traffic in the area on Fridays when traffic is significantly less compared to the other days,” he explained.

To help keep you entertained during your Friday morning drive, we thought that we’d come up with a playlist– you know, in case you’re one of those people who hate sleep and are determined to accomplish more than most by 8am (show off).

“Send Me On My Way” by Rusted Root
A true classic, this track will have you singing all the way to the airport.

“Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls
This hit will have you belting out all the lyrics whilst wiping away the occasional tear.

“Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars
This song will have you bobbing your head the whole way to the airport.

“A Different Way” by DJ Snake ft Lauv
Lauv’s pure vocals perfectly compliment DJ Snakes slick Indian inspired beats. In short, after listening to this track, you’ll be ready for whatever the day throws your way.
