Dubai welcomes brand new landmark
Dubai has just welcomed a brand new landmark and this one has an added element of “love” to it.
Developed by Meraas, the masterminds behind La Mer and City Walk, The Yard is a 350,000 square foot development connected to Last Exit D89 – that’s the one in Al Khawaneej for all those wondering.
Much like City Walk, the multipurpose destination features a number of eye catching graffiti paintings and once complete will feature numerous restaurants, cafes and shops.
Perhaps its biggest attraction is the “promise bridge”. Based off the Ponts des Arts Bridge in Paris, the attraction will allow visitors to write the initial of their loved ones on a padlock and lock it on the bridge as a symbolic pledge of their love for them – sounds cheesy but trust us, the bridge will be flooded with padlocks in no time.
Speaking on the project, Nouf AlMheiri, architect at Meraas, said: “The Yard reflects Meraas’s strong commitment to creating imaginative and exciting family-friendly destinations. In line with our vision of connecting communities through the many sectors that we operate in, the destination’s offerings seek to enhance people’s happiness and sense of belonging.”
The Yard is just one of the attractions that we have to look forward to visiting this year.
Other already iconic sites include Ain Dubai, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi and the Ras al Khaimah zipline.
Located in the soon to be complete Bluewaters Island, Ain Dubai or “Dubai Eye” as it was once known, will be largest Ferris wheel in the world. At 210m high it will eclipse New York’s 198m attraction, and will have the capacity to carry more than 1,400 passengers at a time within its 48 capsules. The flight of the wheel will be an impressive 48 minutes long and will give you an ever-changing view of the city. Aside from the observation wheel, the project will feature a number of dining and retail facilities as well as a 4D cinema that will enlighten guests about city’s rich history and culture.
Warner Bros. World is the latest indoor theme park to arrive in Abu Dhabi. Once complete, it’ll be split into six different zones such as Bedrock (The Flintstones), Metropolis (Superman) and Gotham (Batman) – each with fantastic rides and rollercoasters.
Scheduled to open in the coming weeks, the Ras al Khaimah zipline is located at the top of the Jebal Jais mountain and will feature two lines, allowing friends and family to experience the speedy drop together. While the exact length of the zip-line is being kept a secret until it officially opens, we do know that it is already expected to break the Guinness World Record for the longest of its kind, and will also be the world’s highest zip-line, too.
