Two new bridges open in Dubai to ease traffic
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially opened two new bridges in Dubai to help ease the flow of traffic.
The first bridge can be found on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. It is made up of two lanes, which runs in both directions.
The second, is a one-lane bridge that streches from Zabeel Street towards Sheikh Rashid Street.
The two bridges aim to reduce the traffic experienced in Al Karama and the World Trade Centre junction, in the direction of Sheikh Zayed Road.
Speaking on the news, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said: "The Project is part of RTA’s master plan for the improvement of roads, bridges, crossings and underpasses to accommodate the growing traffic volumes, and ease the traffic movement in all parts of Dubai. It is also part of the overall efforts to implement RTA’s strategic plan for upgrading roads and transport infrastructure in Dubai."
He added: “The intersection of Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Streets is a key part of a big project for improving Al Shandagha roads network. The project is located at the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Street in the direction of the northern end of Al Shandagha Network, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street in the direction of the intersection with Al Kuwait Street.
The two bridges are the latest initiatives set up by the RTA in the hopes of easing traffic within the city.
In September of last year, the RTA opened the long awaited bridge on the Dubai Airport Road.
The bridge located on the Marrakech intersection features a flyover with three lanes and a ramp that stretches from the bridge to Terminal 3.
