Tinie Tempah and W&W to play at new Abu Dhabi Club MAD

If you’re wondering how come, with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and all its outrageous side-lining parties coming up, you’re not hearing a peep from Yas Island’s graffiti-emblazoned mega-club O1ne, it’s because the venue closed down. But that isn’t stopping Tinie Tempah from taking the catwalk, er, stage there for a special F1 performance.

Yes, you heard correctly. The South London rapper will play the venue next Saturday November 28; only the club isn’t called O1Ne anymore and has taken on a whole new persona. Something a bit more, well, mad.

MAD is what you’re now going to call it. The new-look arty party space, the UAE’s largest indoor nightlife venue, is taking after the old Beirut edition of the same name that was White Beirut’s winter counterpart for upscale partygoers.

MAD had set a new level of nightlife in the Lebanese party city simply by providing the best DJs, impeccable service, stunning decor and a flawless sound system. And that’s what its Abu Dhabi equivalent aims to do when it publicly opens its doors for the first time this weekend.

“When brainstorming name ideas for our new venue in Abu Dhabi, we decided to keep the name MAD as we are hoping to do the same for Abu Dhabi nightlife that MAD then did for Beirut: reinvent, set new standards to the hospitality industry, and provide entertainment seekers with a new option when choosing how and where to party,” says Marketing and PR Manager Sara Stosic.

MAD Abu Dhabi has gone under a US $3million refurbishment in the past month, says Stosic. “We’ve provided the existing space with a facelift that includes a suite of technology and production instalments incorporating the latest and best in video and lighting, including: a multi-level, high-energy main room with a central bar; a massive DJ booth (the focal point for dynamic lighting and video displays that can be seen from all angles of the club); a Martin Audio line array sound system, and 360-degree projection mapping.”

Also described as a unique art space, all this technology will be put to good use as MAD plans to host a weird and wonderful variety of entertainment shows alongside its fun themed party nights, and of course some of the biggest international names in electronic dance and popular music will make regular stops through.

“We are preparing some shows that have definitely not been seen before in Abu Dhabi; best to wait and see and let our results speak for themselves,” adds Stosic.

Indeed, if MAD Abu Dhabi were a celebrity, Stosic agrees it would be Lady Gaga – “pushing the boundaries, re-inventing the norms in the industry, and cited as a creative influence by many.”

MAD Yas celebrates its launch with a big opening weekend of parties this Thursday 12th, Friday 13th and Sunday 15th November, then will continue to operate the same nights of the week from 11pm until late.
