National Friends Day
Celebrate National Friends Day at McGettigan’s! The nation’s beloved Irish joint has a number of neat promotions on today among them include an eight hour happy hour (12pm – 8pm) where drink prices of hops and grape start for little as AED20. There’s a lunch deal on too. From 12pm to 5pm all dishes at McGettigan’s JLT will be priced at under AED50. That’s not all, each meal will be occupied with a bottle of complimentary water or soft drink. If you can’t make it, don’t worry. The venue will be hosting an English roast for as little as AED99. Be sure to get there early though, once it’s done, it’s gone…

Anantara The Palm Dubai has some pretty sweet deals on this summer. The five-star hotel is giving guests up to 25 percent off on dining at not one but six of its alluded food and beverage outlets. Just be sure to head to Mekong, Bushman’s, Crescendo, The Beach House, Mai Bar and The Lotus Lounge before August 31 to redeem this great offer.

Analog Room with Lawrence
This represents something of a coup for the organisers of Analog Room – whom we met in the last issue, of course. They have been trying to land Lawrence for the best part of two years and have finally managed to grab the German DJ, producer and remixer for a party next week. He has three minimal/techno albums to his name and also co-runs the Dial label out of Hamburg, Germany. He’ll be supported by Mehdi Ansari aka Shemroon. AED100 on the door, ladies free before 11pm.
When: Thursday, August 3, 10pm-3am

Amit Tandon
The latest in a string of Indian stand-up comedians to come to Dubai this year, Amit has been described as India’s funniest man – and has sold out his previous shows at the same venue. His new show is called “Honestly Speaking” and contains all his familiar observational material.
When: August 3-4
Where: The Junction, Alserkal Avenue

Tortuga
The Mexican haunt has created a special menu to celebrate the last few weeks of summer. For just AED100, guests can enjoy a number of starters that includes beef, chicken and fish tacos. For mains, guests can chose between one of the three mains; Mexican fajitas, catch of the day or roasted chicken served with three chilli mole sauce. There’s dessert too – we recommend the churros – and live entertainment – the in-house DJ will be spinning a number of upbeat tunes.

Part of the Cinema Akil programme, this film follows Lina on a journey from Beirut to Paris in the 1990s. Aged just 19, she is alone and bewildered by the city, but finds something vital: freedom.

Anantara Spa
Following a stylish revamp, this lavish two-storey spa features palatial hammam facilities – think marble floors, trickling fountains and brightly coloured mosaics – for men, women and couples. We recommend the Turkish hammam body escape. After a steam and skin-renewing scrub with a kese mitt, your skin will be slathered in dollops of shea butter enriched with Argan oil. It’s AED800 for 90 minutes.

The Dark Tower (18)
Before we all sit down to watch It, there’s another Stephen King adaptation to get our teeth into. Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey star in this weird sci-fi cowboy Lord of the Rings mashup about the fate of the world. Somehow it works. Just.
In cinemas from July 27
