Market Outside the Box
Dubai Shopping Festival welcomes the return of Market Outside the Box – the unique retail pop-up that will be the temporary home of the most talented independent retailers and designers in the region. Now in its fifth year, the free event at Burj Park will run until January 20 and offers visitors the chance to get their hands on some truly original gifts. 120 designers will showcase their wares that includes everything from textiles, furnishings and jewellery to nutritional meal plans and pieces of one-off artwork. If shopping isn’t your thing you’ll still be able to enjoy an outdoor cinema, hip-hop performances and tunes from the DJ on the day.

DSF Pass
The organisers behind the Dubai Shopping Festival are giving you the chance to experience some of the city’s most exciting attractions at a discounted price. Passes start at AED399 and include access to destinations like Dubai Dolphinarium, Etihad Museum and IMG Worlds of Adventure. You can choose between packages of three, five or unlimited attractions – at an added cost, of course.

Terry Fox Run
This year’s Terry Fox Run will see avid runners, beginners, youngsters and families “run” 8.5km in support of various charities. The fun-run starts and ends at the East Plaza on the Abu Dhabi Corniche at Al Sahil Beach. Onsite registration kicks off at 7am and the run starts at 9am. Click here to register online.

Challenge Chambers
Did you “brother” die of natural causes – or was he killed by a nefarious criminal? When the police siren goes off your hour in the locked room comes to an end. The Challenge Chambers offers both a 30-minute version of the game and one for the full hour, while the larger Mystery Challenge comes in two identical rooms, meaning that friends can be challenged to simultaneous battles. Games are offered in English as well as Arabic.

Dubai Garden Glow
Yards of recycled luminous fabric and 10 million energy saving bulbs have been used to make the largest glow-in-the-dark garden. Expect to see illuminated animal sculptures, lanterns, sea creatures as well as a sections with installations that pay tribute to this city. We’re talking a deck of cards, the traditional coffee pot ‘Dallah’ and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed’s popular three-finger salute (symbolising win, victory and love). The venue is also home to a dinosaur park and ice park. If those bright lights at Dubai Garden Glow don’t make you happy, we don’t know what will.

Van Gogh Alive – The Experience
The world’s most visited multi-media exhibition is making its regional debut this week, and art fans across the nation would be wise to venture to the capital to see it. Van Gogh Alive – The Experience will see over 3,000 images displayed across the Abu Dhabi National Theatre’s floor, walls and ceiling using 40 high-definition projectors. Adding to its appeal is the fact that a special musical score has been created for the occasion. If you’re not too famailiar with the Dutch Post-Impressionist’s work fear not, there will be a number of highlighted sections in place to explain any possible questions that you might have. If Abu Dhabi is a bit too far for you, you’d be happy to know that the renowned exhibit will be making its way to Dubai’s Design District in March.

Dubai Garden Center
This Saturday market is one that’s perfect for the whole family. There’s food – the boerewors (hotdog) rolls from pop-up stand Yebo are to die for – music, tons of bargains ranging from clothing to accessories and of course, plenty of plants. The fresh fruit and veg stall is a nice added bonus.

It’s bound to be an eclectic mix of banging tunes.
