It’s safe to say that Netflix are now pumping out new original series at a much faster rate than we’re able to watch them. Gone are the days where it was just House of Cards and Orange is the New Black to catch up on.

This has only increased as the streaming giant has pushed more resources into creating more shows outside of the US. They already had a hit with German show Dark, and now they’re heading to Denmark - home of The Killing - for a brand new thriller series, titled The Rain.

The show - co-created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, who was behind the popular political series Borgen - is set in a post-apocalyptic Denmark, but this doesn’t look like your average post-apocalyptic story. The trailer doesn’t show a zombie in sight.

Instead, it looks like the titular rain is the enemy. In once scene we see the characters running through a forest screaming in pain as the rain pours down on them. ‘Stay dry, stay alive’ is the slogan which flashes up ominously on-screen.

In the show’s description, Netflix say: “The world as we know it has ended. Six years after a brutal virus wiped out almost all humans in Scandinavia, two Danish siblings, join a group of young survivors set out to find out whether a new world has begun somewhere else. They all hope that the siblings’ father is somewhere out there with answers.

“Set free from the rules of civilized society, each of the young members of the group has the freedom to be who they want to be, but they all struggle with their inner selves, and the fact that even in a post-apocalyptic world there’s love, jealousy, coming of age, and every problem they thought they’d left behind with the disappearance of the world as they knew it.”

The show will star Mikkel Boe Følsggard (A Royal Affair), Alba August (Below the Surface), Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen (Tidsrejsen) and Lars Simonsen (The Bridge, Brotherhood), while Kenneth Kainz (Dicte, The Shamer’s Daughter) and Natasha Arthy (The Killing, Fightgirl Ayse) are in the directors’ seats.

The Rain is expected to air in spring, with no exact date set yet.
