This ‘Game of Thrones’ actor believes a big twist is in store for Bran in Season 8
Once just an innocent boy who scaled castles, Bran is now the Three-Eyed Raven. He can see everything, everywhere, but arguably his biggest talent is creeping out Sansa.
One of the most popular Bran theories is that he will actually turn out to be the Night King - that he goes back in time to try and stop the Children of the Forest from creating the White Walkers, but ends up getting turned into their chieftain instead - but Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who played Jojen Reed up until his death in Season 4, has different ideas.
Brodie-Sangster still thinks Bran is a time traveller, but prefers the theory that Bran has always been the Three-Eyed Raven - that the character played by Max von Sydow was actually Bran in the future.
He told HuffPost: “Yeah, I kind of went with that one. I like the theory of multiverses and different parallel universes working together in time. I just quite like that theory. I went with that and like the idea of that.
“You got to be careful you don’t lose people - what people love about a certain show,” he said of the idea of time-travel theories. “But, like I said, I like all that.”
This theory is pretty out there, particularly since a large contingent of the Game of Thrones fanbase believe the original Three-Eyed Raven to be Brynden Rivers, also known as the Bloodraven.
Brynden was one of the illegitimate sons of King Aegon IV Targaryen, and served as both Hand of the King and Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.
The theory that he may be the Three-Eyed Raven (Three-Eyed Crow in the books) comes from a passage in which he tells Bran: “I wore many names when I was quick, but even I once had a mother, and the name she gave me at her breast was Brynden.”
Rivers has been mentioned just once in the show, just as a passing reference in Season 1 as Ned Stark is looking through The Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms - so it’s very possible that the character will be largely ignored in the series, paving the way for Brodie-Sangster’s desires to potentially become reality.
Personally I feel it’s unlikely, but all we really know for sure is that we can definitely expect some twists when the final season finally airs in 2019.
