La Bohème
The Puccini classics are coming thick and fast at Dubai Opera. La Bohème is one of his most beautiful and tragic, and tells the story of penniless poet Rudolfo and Mimi, a seamstress in Paris, whose romance can’t overcome the political and economic strife around them. This production was first performed by the Welsh National Opera in 2012.

Überhaus X Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE 
Beirut-born clubs are hardly new on the Dubai nightlife scene. White on the rooftop at Meydan is a Lebanese import, as is Indie in DIFC. The pop-up, though, seems to be gaining a favour as a means of bringing that unique Beiruti vibe to Dubai: Mar Mikhael’s Central Station Boutique Bar, for instance, is doing something at Billionaire Mansion this month.
Without question, though, the arrival of Überhaus to Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE this weekend is the most spectacular – so big, in fact, we’re not sure “pop-up” is exactly the right word for its arrival. The centrepiece of the party experience- which will see three class acts perform – is a huge dome adorned with panels that illuminate in time with the music.

Logan (18)
Hugh Jackman dons the knuckle blades for a ninth and, we are led to believe, final time in Logan, the latest X-Men spin-off. This one, though, exists outside the current thread of the franchise, taking place some 20 years after we last saw him. Wolverine is ageing and, as every man on the wrong side of 40 will testify, the tightening grip of bitterness at his diminished capacity is beginning to eat away at him.
Proving that misery loves company, he is joined in his Mexico hideaway, where he works as a limo driver of all things, by his mentor Charles Xavier (a brilliantly gruff Patrick Stewart), whose own powers are severely compromised by a gathering albeit unnamed dementia. His plans for a new generation of mutants appear thwarted as none have been born in the last two decades and, just when you think, the X-Men series is about to go all Harold Pinter, a woman arrives with a young girl, Laura (Dafne Keen), in tow. It’s then, when we learn her background and who is chasing her, that Wolverine’s protective juices start flowing again.
This has a feeling of a darker, much more grown-up tale than we’re used to, which was the intention. Indeed, it’s Wolverine “without the seatbelt on”, according to Jackman, so there is a grimier, earthier quality that ought to help cast the character in a slightly less cartoonish light. It’s a shame this version didn’t appear a bit earlier.
