Art Dubai 2023 Highlights Curated Exhibitions, Performances, And Thought-leadership Programme

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, has announced the most ambitious Art Dubai edition to date. From March 3 to 5, Madinat Jumeirah Dubai will host the acclaimed international art platform, which will include artists from the Middle East and the Global South.

The exhibition this year features more than 130 galleries from more than 40 different nations, and it is divided into four main categories: contemporary, modern, bawwaba, and art Dubai digital. The nonprofit and partner programme of the fair is likewise broad in its breadth and includes recently commissioned works by well-known artists.

The educational and thought leadership programme at the fair has also been increased, making this the biggest and most complete Art Dubai ever.

The non-profit program and partner of the platform, which showcases newly commissioned pieces by esteemed artists, is equally as ambitious. This edition of the fair is the most extensive and thorough to date thanks to the fair’s expanded education and thought leadership programme.

Executive Director of Art Dubai, Benedetta Ghione, says “The enlarged programme for this year is a tribute to Art Dubai’s function as a platform for the region’s creative sectors, both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Art Dubai has consistently sought to reinvent the spirit of an art fair.

As a stand-alone organisation, we are proud to go beyond the conventional idea of an art show by acting as a hub for developing talent, boosting Dubai’s creative industry, bringing brilliant minds together, and acting as a portal to the thriving ecosystem for the larger cultural sector.”

Artistic Director of Art Dubai, Pablo del Val, remarked, “For almost 20 years, Art Dubai has served as a platform to highlight and honour new trends, promote conversation, and recognise the creative accomplishments of the Global South. This year’s participating galleries’ quality and geographic dispersion show that this is a truly global art fair.

The program’s heavy reliance on material from the Global South once more highlights the growing interest in collecting non-Western art, the expansion of the gallery scene beyond traditional art hubs, and Art Dubai’s role as a platform for areas that are significantly under-represented in international collections.”

The fair is co-organized by Art Dubai and A.R.M. Holding, with Swiss Wealth Management Firm Julius Baer serving as the event’s sponsor. The developer HUNA, who has a diverse ethnic background, is a member of Art Dubai’s partnership.

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) is the fair’s strategic partner, and it is held at Madinat Jumeirah. The Dubai Art Season, which runs from February 1 until March 20, includes Art Dubai.

With more than 30 first-time exhibitors this year and more than 60% of the gallery programme coming from the Global South, Art Dubai is firmly established as the premier market for art from this rapidly emerging region.

14 exhibitors will be making their debuts at the 16th Art Dubai, and 12 galleries will be making a comeback. Also, the exhibition will feature 24 galleries from Dubai, the most ever. This highlights the city’s thriving artistic community and its expanding prominence as a major centre for culture and creativity on a global scale.

Art Dubai Digital, which received rave reviews at the 2022 edition, will be on display once more at Art Dubai 2023. An annual review of the digital art landscape will be presented in this physical portion of the fair, which will also explore how artists are embracing immersive technologies to push the frontiers of traditional art.

The selection was carefully chosen from six continents, illustrating Art Dubai’s dedication to offering a variety of global viewpoints. It also encourages viewers to go outside of traditional art institutions to find the main players and platforms that are fostering innovation in this industry.
