Police Put Out A Massive Fire At A Commercial Market In Ras Al Khaimah

A team of four firefighters from the Civil Defence of Ras Al Khaimah has put out a massive fire that started at a significant business store on Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Street on the night of Monday. The fire that started by night spread within minutes and the timely approach of the firefighters helped to avoid casualty.

The Director General of the Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence Department, Brigadier General Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi said that the operations room of the Civil Defence got a report by Monday 8 p.m. regarding the fire that broke out at one of the significant stores on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Street. 

Within four minutes of receiving the information, a brigade under the supervision of Colonel Hamad Salmeen who is the Acting Deputy Director of the Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence Department hurried to the place of incident, he said. Soon the visitors and customers in the commercial market were evacuated and the team of firefighters started their efforts to put out the fire. 

Three firefighting teams from the Al Jazirah Al Hamra, Al-Daqdaqah and Al Rifa’a stations were called as the intensity of the fire increased. Soon the firefighters started using water and foam to put out the fire and to stop it from further spreading to the nearby shopping mall. 

Brigadier Al Zaabi said that the process of extinguishing the fire and dousing it was not so easy. The firefighters have taken a great effort to reduce the fatalities, they have put in much effort to put out the fire within one hour. 

He also noted that the circumstances that led to the fire were not known and the investigation is underway. They handed over the site of the incident to the concerned authorities under the Ras Al Khaimah Police so that they could conduct an investigation and take necessary actions. 

Soon after getting information regarding the fire the Ras Al Khaimah police took necessary safety measures to announce traffic diversions in order to avoid traffic in the place. This precautionary measure was taken as the intensity of the fire got increased. The officials of the Ras Al Khaimah police diverted the traffic to several alternate routes to avoid traffic.

The Ras Al Khaimah official force directed the vehicles and requested them to cooperate with the force for their safety. Those who use the Mohamed bin Salem Road frequently were asked to take alternate diversions as the fire broke out at the commercial street.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Street is an extended highway that outspreads from the Old Ras Al Khaimah to Al Jazeera Al Hamra. It is one of the main highways in the United Arab Emirates. 

Earlier in the second week of this month UAE witnessed another massive fire that took the lives of almost 16 people. A residential apartment building in Deira, Dubai got fire on the 15^th of April. The fire that broke out on the fourth floor of the five-storied apartment building caused great destruction, killing 16 and almost 9 casualties were reported.
