The UAE Cabinet has issued a new policy that will allow transit passengers to leave the airport during their layover.

Once implemented, the new rule will be applicable across all airports in the UAE.

The change aims to enhance the country's tourism industry and local revenue by allowing more tourists to enter the country, if only for a short period of time.

If you have friends or family that will be transiting in Dubai in the near future, here's a list of activities that are well worth a try...

Deira Gold Souk
Home to spices, fragrances and, well, gold, Deira Souk is the perfect place for those looking to bag a bargain and absorb as much of Dubai's history and culture as possible in a short period of time. We suggest taking an abra from the Creek to the Souk for an added tourist experience.

The Dubai Mall
Not just for the shopping but because landmarks like the Burj Khalifa are just minutes away. Souk Al Bahar is worth a visit too, especially if you're looking to buy some quality spices and souvenirs. If you land after 6am and before 11pm, we suggest taking the Dubai Metro because it goes directly to the world's largest shopping mall and it much cheaper than taking a cab.

Big Bus Tour
Yes, it may be a bit cliche but it really is a great way to see the city in a short space of time. As tempting as it is to sit upstairs, don't. Not unless you've got sun block handy.
