The Irish Village truly had the luck of the Irish this week, as the popular Dubai hangout was named ‘Pub of the Year’ at the Irish Pubs Global Awards 2016.

With traditional décor, a village feel and an outdoor area to enjoy during the cooler months, it’s easy to see why The Irish Village scooped the top spot. With regular events and plenty of live music, its events calendar is one of the city’s highlights.

In fact, two Dubai favourites walked away with trophies, as McGettigan’s Abu Dhabi took the crown for ‘Best International Irish Pub Food’ at the award ceremony, which took place in Dublin. “It’s the love and the care that we put into our dishes that make our food so special and loved,” McGettigan’s Executive chef, Derek Flynn, told Donegal Now.

The broad range of award-winners from around the globe shows how the nation has made its mark on the world. “The Irish Pub continues to enjoy iconic status around the world and this conference and the awards are testament to this,” said Enda O’Coineen, Founder and President of the Irish Pubs Global Federation.

“We’re delighted to welcome so many pub owners from abroad who understand the value and special place that the Irish pub continues to hold. Congratulations to all those shortlisted and the winners who took home their awards tonight.”

This comes after Irish senator Billy Lawless called Irish pubs “unofficial embassies” for Ireland in other countries. “The Irish pub is by no small measure a source of great success, and an integral part of our social, cultural and economic life as a nation,” he said.

With two award winners on our doorstep, it should be easy to decide where to head this weekend. “Go on, go on, go on, go on.”
