Dubai Water Canal opening in November

It’s one of Dubai’s most highly anticipated projects (and in a city where construction is booming, that says a lot). We’re talking about Dubai Water Canal, the impressive stretch of water flanked by pedestrian walkways and building projects – according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), we can expect it to be completed in November.

According to a series of tweets from the RTA, the final touches are being finished on the $545 million project. “#RTA represented by the Traffic and Roads Agency started applying the final touches to the project of the #DubaiWater Canal by cleansing the water, removal of the sedimentation and refilling it from the sea. In addition to the paving of the pedestrian pathways in preparation for the official opening next November,” they said.

The canal is six metres deep and stretches 3.2km from Business Bay Canal to the Arabian Gulf via Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Road. The canal will be surrounded by new public places, a shopping centre, hotels, 450 restaurants, walkways, cycle paths and luxury apartments.

One of the most exciting projects coming to the canal is Marasi Business Bay. A completion date hasn’t been announced, but once finished it will be a 250,000 square metre waterfront destination with a yacht club, RTA marina station, five marinas lined with palm trees, a park and a 12km promenade. There will also be water homes and floating restaurants, which are sure to make the area one of Dubai’s major landmarks. On-shore there will be boutique shops and entertainment facilities.
