Book Dubai’s RTA taxis through Careem

In news that will be music to the ears of those of us who flag down taxis at rush-hour, hailing a cab is about to get a lot easier. Soon you’ll be able book all Dubai taxis through the Careem app, following a cooperation agreement between Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Careem Networks Company.

The RTA’s fleet of 9,841 taxis will be available to book through the app, along with 4,700 limousines.

HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA and Mudassir Sheikha, Founder and Managing Director of Careem, signed the agreement on behalf of the two respective entities.

“The partnership with RTA is a huge stride for Careem, and we are keen on supporting RTA’s efforts towards developing smooth mobility solutions for customers,” said Mudassir Sheikha. “Four years ago, we decided to establish Careem to expedite the setup of a technological infrastructure relating to online booking of mobility systems in the Middle East with a view of making life easier, and offering integrated transport solutions.”

This agreement is in line with HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the world’s smartest city. The agreement with Careem is another step towards a multi-transport platform, which should be ready next year. The transport hub project is already underway, and once finished it will allow people to access all transport means in Dubai through a single window. Everything you need to use the city’s metro, tram, buses, marine transport and taxis will be in once place.

For now, we’re looking forward to booking RTA taxis through Careem. It will mean that you can book a cab via the app at the standard RTA rate, without having to pay the extra cost for a Careem limo service.
