Dubai to build the Middle East’s largest marina

A brand new project has been announced for Dubai, and this one is particularly exciting. Dubai Harbour will be a massive waterfront development with residential towers, a shopping mall and the largest marina in the Middle East. The luxurious new district, which will have space for 1,400 berths, will be spread over 20 million sq ft on King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, in the area between the Jumeirah Beach Residence and Palm Jumeirah.

As well as having a 1,400 berth marina and a cruise ship port and terminal, there will be plenty of space for tourism and leisure. A shopping mall cover 3.5 million sq ft, residential buildings, an events arena, hotels, restaurants, cafes and offices will all be built at Dubai Harbour.

And that’s not all… the destination will be home to Dubai Lighthouse, which will no doubt become another world-famous landmark in the city. The 135 metre-tall lighthouse will have an observation deck with 360 degree views, a hotel, and a smooth façade that can be used for light shows and high resolution projections.

The plan, which will be developed in phases over four years, will integrate Skydive Dubai, Dubai International Marine Club, DIMC, and the Logo Island into a single community once finished.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the project, saying: “We are happy that this new project, which represents a unique and innovative new addition to the region’s tourism landscape, opens up a range of new opportunities to investors. Dubai Harbour creates a venue for new investments that support our vision for this important sector and promise to further accelerate the expansion of the tourism industry in the UAE, which is already growing rapidly.”

“I am confident that the project will have a highly positive impact on the entire region’s tourism sector. We are keen to encourage new projects and promote investments that will contribute to bringing to the region more tourists interested in experiencing this part of the world.”

As well as increasing tourism in Dubai, it is anticipated that the project will create new employment opportunities and substantial investments.

This announcement is pretty great news if you own a neighbouring property, as it’s likely to increase its value.

The project will be developed by Meraas, who are working closely with Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Skydive Dubai to see whether they could use Skydive Dubai as a landing site for private jets. So if you own a private jet AND a superyacht, it might be a good idea to move to Dubai Harbour once it’s completed! Only four years to wait…
