Nakheel is no stranger to massive projects, and the latest announcement is especially exciting. In a joint venture with Thai hotel group Centara Hotels and Resorts, the UAE developer is bringing a brand new waterpark to Dubai… and it comes complete with a 550-room beachfront resort.

The AED500 million project will be the first Centara hotel in the UAE, covering an area of 295,900 sq ft. As well as a waterpark and hotel, there will be dining facilities, a business centre, kid’s club and fitness centre. The resort is anticipated to have soft opening in 2019 and grand opening in 2020.

Nakheel has already invested more than AED 3 billion in Deira Islands, including infrastructure work, coastal works and design services for new projects. The destination will add 40 km, including 21 km of beach, to Dubai’s coastline. Recently, the developer finished a bridge to access the island at a cost of AED 150 million. Once complete, there will also be six marinas, as well as hundreds of hotels, apartments office buildings and leisure venues.

Nakheel Chairman Ali Rashid Lootah said: “Our joint venture with Centara cements our commitment to partnering with successful, reputable international hotel brands to bring new tourism concepts to Dubai in line with the Government of Dubai’s tourism vision. Today’s signing is a key milestone in hospitality expansion – and the beginning of a long-term strategic partnership between Nakheel and one of Thailand’s biggest, most popular hotel operators. We look forward to seeing this exciting project come to fruition by delivering a new and unique offering at Deira Islands.”

Centara operate 65 hotels across Asia, the Middle East and the Indian Ocean, and this new development marks a major milestone in their expansion… Though, to be honest, they had us at ‘waterpark’.

It seems that there’s lots to look forward to ahead of 2020.
