Emirates launches paid access to business lounge at DXB

Emirates Airline only just announced that the makeover of its business class lounge at Dubai International Airport (DXB) was finished, and now they’ve dropped some even better news…

We can all have access to it! For a price.

Entry-level Skywards members will be charged $100 (AED360) for four-hour access to its business class lounge and $200 (AED720) for first class.

And as for gold and silver members, they’ve got an even better deal. Not only do they get complementary access to the business lounge, but they can upgrade to first class for $100 (AED360) for four hours.

We know what you’re thinking – there must be a catch. The offer is only available to those travelling on an Emirates or Qantas flight, so unfortunately you can’t just pop in any time you’re going through DXB. Also, if you overstay your four hours, you’ll have to pay for an extra three, even if your flight is delayed.

According to Emirates, the offer is “subject to capacity restrictions”, and you must pay using a credit or debit card, as miles cannot be redeemed for access.

You’re probably wondering if it’s all it’s cracked up to be. After a recent revamp, Emirates’ lounges are pretty swanky. In the business lounge you’ll find a buffet, a ‘health hub’ in partnership with Voss, complementary Costa coffee. As for first class, it’s like a five star hotel – multiple restaurants, a complementary spa and a relaxation area make sure passengers are in full zen mode before their flight takes off.

Last October, the airline introduced an AED50 fee for advanced seat selection on short-haul flights, and AED150 on long-haul flights. According to Emirates’ president Tim Clark, they are looking to introduce new charges for services like extra baggage.
