Get your swimming trunks ready because Dubai Municipality’s latest project will see a whopping AED35 million go to enhancing and protecting the city’s many public beaches over a two-year period.

Basically what this means is that the sand – all 30,000 cubic meters of it that are usually washed away or lost due to sand and wind storms - will be replaced. There’ll also new safety equipment such as wave barrier buoys, sign boards and flags. Oh, and aside from cool navigational gadgets, beach access for those will special needs will be improved.

That’s not all, if the recent AED300 million renovation to Umm Suqeim Beach is any indication, we could be looking at the possibility of getting a few neat features like volleyball courts and running tracks.

For those panicking over where to get their Saturday tan on, fear not, as much like Umm Suqeim, Al Mamzar Beach Park has also received a pampering session of its own, with roughly 250,000 cubic meters of sand being laid on its shore.

While we are well aware that Al Mamzar Beach Park is slightly further than most Dubai Marina and JLT residents would like to venture out to, you won’t have to for long, as Jumeriah Beach Park which has been closed due to the construction of the Dubai Water Canal, is rumoured to re-open imminently. Yay.

If you can't wait and don't like the term “public” there are many, and we mean many, beach clubs to choose from. Nikki Beach which offers die-hard sunbathers all-white sun beds and the option of VIP cabanas is great for those looking for an Ibiza feel thanks to its many parties and signature dance tunes. Blue Marlin Ibiza, Nasimi Beach and Zero Gravity all have great parties and their regular international DJ line-ups is a sight to see. Their views of the sunset aren’t too bad either.
