Temperatures to soar in Dubai this Friday

Just when you were getting used to wearing your favourite jacket….guess what? Yep, a heatwave is coming.

But don’t worry, it’s for one day only.  Forecasters are all predicting a massive spike in Dubai temperatures on Friday, soaring well above 30 degrees Celsius – possibly as high as 34C late tomorrow afternoon.

According to NCMS, there may also be scattered rain in parts of the country. Tomorrow’s forecast reads: “The [unstable] weather conditions will continue over the country, with partly cloudy to cloudy and hazy weather at times over some areas with rainfall over scattered areas, especially the islands and coastal areas. Moderate to fresh winds, becoming strong at times over the sea and the exposed areas, causing blowing dust/sand with poor visibility at times. Wind becoming Northwesterly, fresh to strong during night & next morning. Sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.”

The hot weather is only set to last for 24 hours, with temperatures plunging by Saturday, down to just 22C. And by the early hours of Sunday, winter weather will be right back, with the mercury likely to be as low as 14C.

The week ahead looks pretty chilly by Dubai standards, with day time peaks around 23C and nightime dropping to around 17C.

The recent spell of rain looks to be coming to end. But the big question is when does summer properly start?

Daylight hours are already getting longer each day. Here at ShortList, we traditionally “call” the start of spring (well, summer) as the first day after the Dubai World Cup. This year’s racing festival is on Saturday 25 March – which means as far as we are concerned, March 26 is officially when it starts getting seriously hot.
