It’s official: Spring to start on March 15

Winter is coming to an end. To be precise, it will end next Wednesday on March 15, when “Spring” officially starts.

In a statement to Arabian Business, a National Centre for Metreology and Seismology (NCMS) official said: “The spring season will start from March 15 and continue till June 15 following which the summer season will commence and continue till September 15.”

But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to get super-hot very quickly. Dubai Municipality, in its monthly weather outlook, said: “March is the transition period in the region; this means there will be an abundant supply of energy available for the development of all meteorological parameters such as thunder clouds, cold storms, high humidity and fog.”

Looking at the various weather forecasts, most experts suggest the mercury is going to start gradually rising early next week, getting as high as 33c by next Monday. However, it could still dip below 20c in the mornings for a few more weeks.

Here at ShortList, we are sticking to our own forecast which is that the last full day of winter is Saturday March 25 – the day of the Dubai World Cup.

Either way, looks like you only have a few more weeks to wear those winter jumpers.
