The UAE is known for being home to lots of extravagant things – the world’s tallest tower, the world’s biggest mall, a man-made island… you get the idea. And now the UAE is home to a large proportion of the world’s billionaires.

According to the Hurun Global Rich List, in the rankings for most billionaires in the world, the UAE comes in at number 19, marking the first time that it has been in the top 20.

According to the China-based report, there are currently 21 billionaires living in the Emirates at the moment.

China has held onto the number one spot for yet another year, with a whopping 609 billionaires! If you think that’s impressive, just take a moment to digest the fact that China gained an extra 41 billionaires over the last year.

The United States came in second place with 552 billionaires, followed by Germany and then India.

Although India is fourth place, it actually lost 11 billionaires last year due to demonetisation.

According to the 2017 report, there are now 2,257 billionaires in the world, which sets another new world record, as it’s up by 69 people from last year. These ultra-rich share $8 trillion of the world’s wealth – if that figure is too hard to even imagine, one billion is equal to a thousand millions and one trillion is equal to a million millions. So… yeah, they’re incredibly rich.

If you’re sitting there dreaming about turning left on planes, booking islands rather than hotels, having a driver for each of your 12 cars and buying a football club instead of a season ticket, apparently technology is the way to go. The key findings of the study say that technology is the main source of wealth. Real estate has dropped to fourth place behind manufacturing and investments.

So, there’s your advice. Good luck! And remember us when you make it big…
