Dubai Airport gets world’s fastest ever free Wi-Fi
Next time your plane is delayed at Dubai International Airport, just carry on surfing. DXB has just set another record by implementing the fastest ever free airport Wi-Fi on the planet.
Known as WOW-Fi, it now means there is a free connection with speeds of 100mpbs for anyone passing through its terminals. Only last December, free unlimited Wi-Fi was rolled out at DXB and Dubai World Central airports, with a connection speed of 5mpbs.
Well this new speed is a mega twenty times faster, and connects with just one click. The airport is also installing 6000 Wi-Fi access points to ensure complete coverage.
“To support these travellers, late last year we launched unlimited free high-speed Wi-Fi across our airports, but our goal was to offer something they have never experienced at an airport before,” said Michael Ibbitson, executive vice president of Technology and Infrastructure at Dubai Airports.
He added: “During the two months since the soft launch of WOW-Fi, the service has been enjoyed by an average of over 100,000 unique users per day. We are certain the WOW-Fi experience will impress the 89 million passengers we expect to welcome at DXB in 2017.”
The introduction of WOW-Fi isn’t the only thing that Dubai International Airport has done to accommodate the expected influx of passengers.
Late last year, the city's leading airline, Emirates retired its last Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft, making it the only airline in the world to operate a fleet of all Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircrafts. In case, you’re not familiar with planes – it means that they can now accommodate roughly twice as many passengers on their flights. Sweet.
