The world’s most expensive burger was just sold in Dubai

Dubai certainly likes being the best and biggest in the world – it’s got the world’s tallest building, largest firework display, largest mall, and soon to be largest indoor ski slope and water fountain in the world – thank you Meydan One Mall.

However, it seems another record has been added to its ever growing list – the world’s most expensive burger. The AED36,700 bun and meat patty was sold at an auction in The Dubai Mall’s Galeries Lafayette yesterday – yep someone spent over AED35, 000 for a burger… but it’s all for a good cause.

The money from the burger made by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah went to Pink Caravan’s breast cancer awareness campaign Pink Bite.

This isn’t the first that someone has spent what some may consider an obscene amount of money on something trivial for charity. Nope, just last month Indian businessman and Dubai expat Balwinder Sahani spent a staggering AED4.5 million on a du phone number….

The number + 971 58 888 8888, which was made public information during an auction at the Grand Hyatt Dubai Convention Centre and again later by Sahani was purchased solely because of charity.

We’re not kidding, here’s what he said: “I only wanted this number so it’s the only one I bought. I never have limits when I want something, especially when it is for charity.”

The best bit? Sahani told national newspaper Khaleej Times that he’s never ever going to use the number… “I can never use this number. I got it in my hands at 8.30pm today and till now, within just 2 hours, I’ve received 1,000 calls.”
