The construction of the Expo2020 metro station has officially kicked off! According to a video published by Arabian Business, the soon-to-be the biggest metro station in Dubai has finally moved passed its design stage.

While the 0.22 second video doesn’t show us very much of the actual site itself (it just shows us the barriers and a few cranes), it means that in just three short years we’ll finally be able to see the airplane inspired masterpiece.

Route 2020 was awarded to multinational company Expolink, and is worth a staggering AED10.6 billion – that’s almost half the price of the entire Dubai Metro project which cost a total of AED28 billion.

As part of this new development from May 2020, there will be direct transport to areas like the Discovery Gardens, Jumeriah Gold Estates and Dubai Investment Parks.

That’s not all, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have also announced that they will be introducing 50 new trains to their fleet; 15 will be exclusively for the Expo and the remaining 35 will go to improving the overall traffic on the Dubai Metro.

Route 2020 will also feature seven stations; five elevated and two underground. It will run along a 15-km stretch extending from Nakheel Harbour & Tower Station to the Expo 2020 site.
