India plans for landmark taller than Dubai’s Burj Khalifa
It looks like India is all set to welcome a structure that will be taller than our beloved Burj Khalifa. The structure, that will be built in the country's financial capital, Mumbai, will be part of a new development with a green boulevard bigger than Marine Drive.
“We have plans to develop the area...We are making a green, smart road, three times bigger than the Marine Drive. We plan to build a historic landmark bigger than Burj Khalifa. The plan is ready, we are waiting for the approval from the Cabinet," Nitin Gadkari, the union minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, told PTI.
Once signed-off it will form part of a new Eastern waterfront that will include convention centres, office spaces and entertainment facilities.
Although initial discussions point towards it being larger than the Burj Khalifa, it's unlikely that it will ever take the world title. Saudi Arabia are currently building Jeddah Tower, which is expected to be 1,001 metres once complete in 2020, which will make it the world's tallest.
And that's not all. Dubai currently has a project underway that will out-do the Burj Khalifa. Once complete The Tower will be Dubai’s tallest building, boasting an awesome viewing deck that will give a 360-degree view of the city. It will also feature rotating balconies so that visitors can enjoy the full view. The VIP viewing areas are set to be even more spectacular, recreating the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The impressive structure that is said to be 100m taller than the Burj Khalifa was designed by Santiago Calatrava and was inspired by the UAE’s rich heritage and modern architecture.
