New video gives major insight into what Dubai Expo 2020 will look like
Earlier this month designs for Al Wasl Plaza were revealed. The massive 150-metre structure will be the central hub of Expo 2020, acting as a dramatic focal point for millions of visitors.
A new video showing what the plaza will look like has just been released, giving us a look at how the 65-metre-high domed trellis will be used as a projection surface.

This will sit on a 4.38 kilometre site with restaurants, fountains and parks.
‘Al Wasl’ means ‘connection’ in Arabic, and that’s exactly what the plaza will do, connecting three districts (Opportunity, Sustainability and Mobility) as well as the Dubai Metro link and the UAE Pavilion, through its seven entrances and exits.
The plaza will host events during Expo 202, however, once the Expo is finished it will go on to serve as a mixed-use legacy for the site.
“Expo 2020 Dubai will be an exceptional, unmissable and breathtaking global destination, and we feel Al Wasl Plaza embodies that vision,” said Gordon Gill, Design Partner at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, who designed the space.
“We are creating a space that will be an architectural landmark not just for the six months of Expo but long into the future. We want Al Wasl Plaza, with its cutting-edge design, to inspire not just our generation but many generations to come.”
This is the last major design element that will be announced for Dubai South. It will be developed alongside the other locations, such as the themed pavilions, which is on track to have all the heavy construction work finished by October 2019.
Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General, Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, said: “Memorable moments are framed by memorable spaces. Al Wasl Plaza will be an inspirational location, exemplifying local culture and family values while also looking to the future.”
