Beauty blogger Huda Kattan had to cancel her much-awaited appearance at Sephora in The Dubai Mall yesterday.

The world-renowned makeup guru, who was named one of the top three beauty influencers in the world by Forbes, was asked to cancel her launch of the much-awaited 3D highlight palette due to overcrowding.

With fans gathering some five hours before her scheduled appearance at 7pm, concerned parties found themselves struggling to find enough security to maintain the crowd and secure the area. Unfortunately Kattan found herself having to cancel due to security concerns.

Kattan announced the news with her 19.6 million Instagrams followers by posting a video of the crowd along with the caption: “Hi my loves, I’m very, very sad to announce that due to extremely high safety and security concerns we have been forced to cancel tonight’s Meet & Greet. Dubai Mall is one of the most visited and safest places in the world, which is why crowd control was very important! There are way too many people waiting at Sephora and we are above capacity limits according to health and safety regulations.”

She added: “I have been counting down for this event for over a month and I’ve really been looking forward to meeting you all! Words can’t describe how sad I am. I’m really sorry to everyone who planned on coming out tonight but this is beyond our control.Your safety is our main priority and we can’t compromise it under any circumstances! You have no idea how sad I am about this, but again – I want you all to be safe! Thank you so much for all your love and support, ILYSM.”

Aside from Instagram, the beauty entrepreneur also shared a number of videos on Snapchat documenting her experience.

In one of them she can be heard saying: “I have a lot of security around me, but there’s really no security around the crowd to keep everyone safe, and Dubai Mall got a little concerned because safety, of course, is the most important thing for everybody in the mall. With crowds and people being a little aggressive and maybe even not being polite to each other, there was a lot of concern from everyone, myself included, just because we want to make sure it’s a happy event.”

Shortly after the event was cancelled Kattan shared a Snap saying: “I was literally almost in tears in the office, just thinking that people have been waiting to meet me. I would never want to let people down.”
