Dubai Police has just added a snazzy, environmentally friendly BMW i3 to their already impressive fleet that includes the world’s fastest police patrol car, the Bugatti Veyron.

The fully-electric BMW i3 has a top speed of 150kmph, and is much better for the environment as it doesn’t emit any harmful gases.

The compact hatchback was unveiled yesterday and forms part of the UAE’s plan of reducing the overall carbon dioxide emissions by 15 percent by 2021.

To ensure that they meet their goal, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has previously announced that they have committed to buying over 200 electronic Tesla cars to add to their fleet of taxis.

The agreement came while Tesla founder Elon Musk was in the region to launch the brand’s latest models –Model S sedan and Model X SUV.

Speaking on the agreement at the time the director general and chairman of the board at the RTA Mattar Al Tayer revealed that aside from catering the nation’s wish of becoming more sustainable, it also forms part of Dubai’s Smart Autonomous Mobility Strategy that aims to transform 25 per cent of car journeys in Dubai into autonomous rides by 2030.
