New access route to Dubai Mall to open by the end of the year
Popping to the biggest mall in the world for a quick shop is about to get easier. According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) a new access bridge to Dubai Mall will be open by the end of the year.
The bridge, connecting Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Road, is already over 90 percent complete, according to Mattar Al Tayer, RTA director-general and chairman.
The $48 million (AED177 million) project consists of two lanes stretching over 1.2 kilometres in one direction, crossing Dubai Canal.
It's hoped that the project, starting from Ras Al Khor Road and Al Khail Road, will help to ease traffic. The existing road will be made wider with the addition of two lanes stretching along 480 metres. The RTA explained that the project will ease congestion on Financial Centre Road and the intersection linking to Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard. It should also increase the capacity of the road by 4,500 vehicles.
The project will also have a direct entry point to Dubai Mall’s new parking terminal.
This is an important step for Emaar’s expansion of Dubai Mall, which will see 75,000 square metres of retail space and 25,000 square metres of car parking space added. It’s expected that this new space will see the addition of 150 international brands, leisure facilities and f&b offerings.
This comes after Emaar Malls (including The Dubai Mall, Dubai Marina Mall, Gold & Diamond Park, and Souk Al Bahar) reported a net profit for AED539 million in the first quarter of 2017. The malls collectively welcomed over 34 million visitors during this period.
This confirms what we already knew – people just love to shop! In fact, Dubai was recently named the second-best shopping hub in the world.
