RTA to partially close Dubai Metro's Red Line
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has just announced that they will be partially closing several key stops on the Dubai Metro’s Red Line on weekends.
From July 28 to October 14, the RTA will be closing the route from Jumeriah Lakes Tower to Ibn Battuta on weekends to carry out further construction on the route to the Expo 2020 site.

If you’re unfamiliar with the metro lines, The Dubai Mall, BurJuman as well as Airport Terminal 1 and 3, all fall under the red line. This, ultimately means that the time taken to travel to and from Jebal Ali via the Dubai Metro will take longer during the weekend...
While little can be done with regard to the increase in travel time, the RTA has announced that they will be providing complimentary shuttle buses to and from both stations.
Speaking on the news, RTA’s Director of Rail Operation Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb said: “RTA is always keen to ensure the smooth functioning of public transit modes and offer seamless transit service to the public throughout weekdays. It also seeks to ensure the smooth functionality of its electronic and smart services 24/7 and their full integration with the public transport network.”
“[The] RTA conducted intensive field studies in collaboration with a contractor to ensure that the alternative plan would be highly efficient in commuting riders between the two stations, given the intensive traffic movement over the weekends,” he added.
While the route closure will prove a nuisance to some, it does, however, mean that we are one step closer to the opening of the Expo 2020 metro station and to having direct access to areas like the Discovery Gardens, Jumeriah Gold Estates and Dubai Investment Parks.
