Dubai’s beaches named some of the best in the world
A new report by CNN Money has just listed Al Mamzar Park, Jumeriah Open Beach and Kite Beach as three of the best beaches near the airport.
The report also listed Cove, Nikki and Nasimi Beach as must-see beach destinations for travellers looking to catch a tan.
With temperatures in the high 40s, we’re aware that sun lounging isn’t the safest option. That said, it’s worth noting that Al Mamzar and Umm Suqeim Beach are now offering night swimming.
“The Night Swimming Beach initiative launched recently by Dubai Municipality at Umm Suqeim area has witnessed a remarkable success, which was reflected in the enhanced number of beach-users in the evening, who came to the beach for swimming in the Gulf waters at night away from the sun and high temperatures during the day," said Eng. Alia Al Harmoudi, Director of Environment Department at Dubai Municipality.
Al Harmoudi added: “The smart poles were installed at a height of 12 meters, which light the side of the beach up to a width of 120 meters and a depth of 50 meters inside the sea water. Each pole can generate about 1.5 KW of electricity per day from a combination of wind and solar energy.
“The poles are made of weather resistant reinforced fibers, making them suitable for installation in the coastal environment. In addition, the poles are equipped with sensors that enable them to light the beach automatically after sunset.”
Previously, night swimming was banned in Dubai due to safety concerns. However, these night swimming locations have taken precautions to make sure that they are as safe as possible. Each has a rescue station that has a qualified crew, ambulance and communication equipment.
Aside from Dubai, Los Angeles’ Dockweiler State Beach also made CNN Money’s list as did Lady Robinson’s Beach in Sydney. Port Dickson in Kuala Lumpur was also named as was Hong Kong’s Silver Mine Bay beach.
