Dubai Taxis can now be booked by through the Uber app
Why is it that taxis are everywhere… except when you have a really important meeting/appointment and it’s 45 degrees outside? It’s okay, you don’t have to answer that, because it sounds like the problem has been solved. Customers can now easily book a Dubai Taxi Corporation limousine through the Uber app (cue round of applause).
The CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation, Dr Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, and general manager of Uber in the UAE, Christopher Free, signed the deal to enable booking the DTC limousines through the Uber transport service app.
Al Ali told Arabian Business: "The signing of this agreement with Uber for operating Dubai Taxi limousines concurs with the directives of our leadership to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world. The move can also bring about a quantum shift in the quick offering of limo through pairing passengers with limo chauffeurs by just a click of a button.”
Free agreed, saying: “Adding the Dubai Taxi Limo to Uber App would add to the abundance of vehicles on offer, cutting back waiting time for customers and providing safe and suitable transport for all everywhere.”
This announcement is in line with the partnership agreement between Uber and the RTA in January to study new mobility options for the Dubai Plan 2021, which focuses on an urban environment and improvement of living experience both of the people of Dubai and its visitors.
The announcement also comes just a few months after Dubai’s RTA and Uber announced a 3 month trial in April of the UberX services where Uber’s economy cars would start from AED5 with fares going up by AED1.37 per kilometre and AED0.4 per minute, in order to make commuting for public transport users more convenient and affordable.
The success of the concept could pave the way for the introduction of other exciting ideas like Uber Elevate (Uber and RTA’s proposal for self-driving flying cars) and UberPOOL (Uber’s carpool service).
