You can now set up DEWA without leaving your sofa

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) latest initiative allows you to activate and cancel your electricity and water account without ever leaving your sofa.

The One Step initiative lets you activate your water and electricity services provided you have your Ejari contract certified by a real estate company or typing centre.

Once you’ve done that, an activation SMS or email will be sent from DEWA with further instructions on how to activate your utility services.

Customers looking to deactivate their account can do so using the DEWA app or website. With regards to deposits, DEWA will transfer the amount to the IBAN account number provided or via cheques that will be sent to the customer’s registered local address.

Aside from cancelling and activating utility services, the initiative provides smart payment methods for customers looking to pay their bills in instalments. You can now do so without paying interest by using either your Emirates NBD or Mashreq Bank credit card.

The time saving initiative both supports DEWA’s commitment to streamline procedures and save time and effort as well as its vision of becoming a sustainable world-class utility.

Speaking on the project, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said: “One Step allows customers to complete procedures to activate/deactivate electricity and water services in one simple step.”

He added: “The initiative is part of the DEWA’s innovation strategy and a result of the efforts of DEWA’s Innovation Team, which includes experts and innovators from all divisions and departments. The team has made great efforts that have resulted in many initiatives, including One Step, which supports DEWA’s commitment and strategic priorities to promote smart services and innovation.”

The initiative comes just days after the city’s water and electricity authority launched “Move To”. The service allows those shifting houses in Dubai to transfer their account details as opposed to cancelling their account all together.

A move that is sure to save you tons of time, money and hassle.

Previously, you had to cancel your account, settle your bill, request your deposit and then pay for your new deposit up front.

Now, all you need to do is submit your new Ejari tenancy contract to the Customer Happiness Centre or submit it online using the DEWA smart app or the website.
