The first Tesla vehicles have been added to Dubai’s taxi fleet
The first batch of Tesla vehicles have been added to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s fleet.
This means that the next time you order a cab or flag one down, you could be cruising in one of the 50 Tesla Sedan X or S models.
If you’re not impressed, you should be. The Tesla Sedan X has been described as the safest, fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle on the road. It can go from a speed of 0kph to 100kph in just 3.1 seconds and can seat seven. It also has the largest all-glass panoramic windshield in production. Not bad considering that one car of this model costs a cool AED344,000.
The Tesla S can accelerate from 0kph to 100kph in just 2.7 seconds. When fully charged, it can travel a range of 632km and has a 17 inch touch screen. A single Tesla S costs just over AED275,000.
That’s not all, both models have the option of going fully autonomous, which means that not only will the car be able to drive on its own, it will also be able to so in a matter than is safer than human driver.
News of the RTA and Tesla’s partnership was made public shortly after the brand’s founder, Elton Musk, opened Tesla’s first flagship store in the UAE.
During this time, the two forces announced that they would be furthering Dubai’s mission of becoming the world’s smartest city as well as its aim of converting the city’s transport to be 25 percent autonomous by 2022 by introducing 200 Tesla vehicles to the RTA’s fleet.
