Uber has just announced that it will be in charge of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Tesla fleet.

The news means that the 50 chic Tesla X models will join Uber’s fleet - which is already pretty impressive, with brands like BMW, Lexus and Nissan Patrol.

The 50 Tesla X models will be available on Uber’s brand new UberOne service, a facility that is only available in Dubai.

UberOne will be available to all those in city from Tuesday, October 10.

Speaking on the news, the General Manager of Uber UAE, Chris Free said: “We are tremendously excited to be the exclusive ride-hailing partner for this fleet of premium electric vehicles in Dubai, in partnership with Dubai Taxi Corporation, and for the clean vehicle technology to deliver our driver-partners and riders with more efficient, less-polluting mobility.”

He added: “We will continue to work hand in hand with Dubai Taxi Corporation to bring innovative infrastructural solutions to Dubai and grow the city’s smart mobility ecosystem.”

With regards to pricing, it is believed that UberOne will fall under the same, if not slightly higher price range than Uber’s existing Uber Black and Black XL service.

The news of RTA’s and Tesla’s partnership was made public shortly after the brand’s founder, Elton Musk, opened Tesla’s first flagship store in the UAE earlier this year.

During this time, the two forces announced that they would be furthering Dubai’s mission of becoming the world’s smartest city as well as its aim of converting the city’s transport to be 25 percent autonomous by 2022 by introducing 200 Tesla vehicles to the RTA’s fleet.

While we wait for the vehicles to make their way to Uber’s fleet, here’s a bit more info on the alluded car model.

  • The Tesla Sedan X has been described as the safest, fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle on the road.
  • It can go from a speed of 0kph to 100kph in just 3.1 seconds and can seat seven. It also has the largest all-glass panoramic windshield in production.
  • A single model costs a cool AED344,000.
