You could win tons of cash by using public transport in Dubai this month



The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has just announced that it will be giving lucky commuters the chance to win AED50,000 by simply using the city’s many public transport services.

The initiative that kicks starts today, Monday, October 23, will run until Wednesday, November 1, to mark Public Transport Day.

According to RTA officials, the event that falls in line with His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, Dubai Fitness Challenge, will feature three distinct categories; frequent travellers, public transport races and the Gold Runner competition.

“The first category involves riding public transport [metro, tram, buses, water taxis and water buses] using nol Card from October 23 to November 1. The two most frequent public transport users who collect the maximum number of points would be named as winners, and each would receive a cash prize of AED50,000,” the Director of RTA’s Marketing and Corporate Communication, Moaza Saeed Al Marri explains.

The second category will be held on November 1 and will see teams of commuters race to different metro, tram, public bus, and marine transport stations. Once they arrive at each station, they wil be required to do a string of exercises.

The winner will be team that reaches the final station with the most number of sealed stamps. The winning team will receive a cash prize of AED50,000. Those in second place will receive AED30,000 while those in third will walk away with AED15,000.

The third and final category is the Gold Runner competition. Taking place from today, October 23, until, Wednesday, November 1, commuters will have to follow several social media accounts in the hopes of spotting the “Gold Runner” who will be visiting three RTA stations daily.

Winners will walk away with Fitbits, Apple watches and the brand new iPhone 8 *beings following every public transport social media account immediately*.
