Dubai Fitness Challenge Carnival
Following the tremendous success of last week’s Dubai Fitness Challenge carnival in Safa Park, the event’s organisers have announced that it will be adding four more festivals to the bill. The first takes place this Friday, October 27, at Kite Beach and, much like the last one, will feature a number of action packed activities – expect everything from volleyball, beach cricket and capoeira – and live entertainment. If you, unfortunately, can’t make it this weekend, you can attend the one happening next weekend (November 3 -4) at Skydive Dubai or the one taking place the following weekend at Burj Park from November 10 to November 11. If you’re really that busy (lies), you can attend the fourth and final carnival at Dubai Festival City on November 17 and 18.

The Pretenders
The Live on the Lake series from The Irish Village, which is one of our very favourite places to watch live music, continues with new-wave-turned-rock-vets The Pretenders. Fronted by Chrissie Hynde, they started out in the late 1970s as a kind of edgier, less polished Blondie and unleashed a barrage of hits including the now iconic “Brass in Pocket” and “Back on the Chain Gang”. They will be joined by Heather Small and Aswad.

More rock royalty comes to Dubai, this time in the form of Status Quo, whose legacy stretches back more than 50 years. Although founder member Rick Parfitt passed away late last year, Francis Rossi and his crew have been keeping the flame alive with a string of performances, reprising the classic songs “Rocking All Over The World”, “Whatever You Want” and “Down Down”. This show is part of their Last Night of the Electrics tour.
