You could see the ‘Supermoon’ in Dubai tonight
For those who haven’t heard of the supermoon before, it's a phenomenon that occurs when the new moon or full moon is at the closest point of its orbit to the Earth, making the moon appear up to 14 percent larger than usual – we’re talking about a distance of 357,987km to be considered ‘close’ enough to get the supermoon status – fascinating.
Well, you could see just that happening in the UAE today.
With winter finally amongst us, the skies darken much quicker and that means you will be able to get an uninterrupted view of the moon for a few hours.
Moonrise is expected to be at 5.33pm (btter make a note of that), and will reach its its peak at 7.46pm.
It’s the first supermoon for 2017 and you don’t want to miss it.
However, if you do...the phenomenon will happen twice in 2018.
If you’re really want to see it in all of its glory, head down to Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre where the Dubai Astronomy Group will be hosting an event to witness the supermoon that will be taking place today (December 3) between 5.30pm and 9pm.
