Dubai will soon be home to the Middle East’s biggest mall
Dubai’s status as the destination for the biggest, tallest and largest structures has just been boosted as Nakheel has officially signed the contract for what will be the biggest mall and the largest in the UAE in terms of leasable space.
The developer’s new shopping, dining and entertainment destination, Deira Mall (also touted to be the centerpiece of Deira Central on Deira Islands) will be completed by 2021 with its main attraction being its state-of-the-art, retractable glass roof that will bring natural light into the complex and allow for open-air shopping during cooler months.
Construction on the project, worth a whopping AED4.2 billion, will begin in the first quarter of this year, with Ali Rashid Lootah, Nakheel’s Chairman, stating: "Deira Mall combines cutting edge design, world-class facilities and a stunning location to bring a new dimension to Dubai’s retail sector. With its top-flight shopping, dining and entertainment offering, the mall will provide endless attractions for residents of Deira Islands, the wider UAE community and the millions of tourists who visit Dubai each year".
Designed to accommodate over 1,000 shops, food and beverage outlets as well as entertainment venues, the mall is part of Deira Central, a nine million sq ft multi-purpose community that will lay in the heart of Deira Islands.
Deira Mall will be one of Deira Islands large scale retail destinations. The other is Deira Islands Night Souk, the world’s largest night market.
From what we currently know, the night market will feature 5,300 shops and almost 100 quayside cafes and restaurants. Nice.
Deira Islands will also be home to Deira Central, a developement that will boast 50 residential and hotel towers, retail spaces, mosques and fitness facilities, while the 15.3 sq km waterfront city itself will include an 800-room beachfront resort and waterpark as well as a a 600-room seafront resort.
