Dubai adds another world record to its list

Dubai has added yet another world record to its name and this time it’s for the largest aerial projection screen.

In celebration of the “Year of Zayed”, Wasl Asset Management Group filled the night sky with an image of the founding father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The Guinness World Record breaking aerial screen measured at an impressive 42.15 metres in width and 92.49 metres in length.

The screen was airlifted by a Bell 212 Helicopter while a second projected video onto the screen.

The impressive show used a combination of augmented reality tracking and live projection to display a short film about ‘Year of Zayed’. The skit provided the public with a visual tribute to the Founding Father’s life and vision.

The show which kick-started at Skydive Dubai could be seen from a distance of three kilometers and commenced at Zabeel Park.

For all those who are new to the city, the record for largest aerial projection screen is the latest that Dubai has claimed.

In January this year, the city nabbed the Guinness World Record for the largest cup of hot tea. The massive tea cup, constructed at Global Village, measured a cool 3.66 metres in length and contained over 5,000 litres of hot tea.

Dubai also holds the Guinness World Record for longest gold chain and for the tallest chocolate structure. Unveiled at Dubai International Airport in 2014, the mammoth design was in the shape of the Burj Khalifa. The tasty replica stood 13.52 meters tall and was created by Andrew Farrugia from Malta. The 500 tonnes of chocolate cubes were flown to Dubai in 500 separate boxes and had to be handled with extreme care, as they were prone to breaking – we can imagine.
