This is what you need to know about tonight’s Perseid meteor shower
Right people, the moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. The Perseid Meteor Shower will be gracing our sky tonight – an annual occurrence that takes place every August.
During the shower’s peak, UAE residents should be able to see about 60 to 70 meteors pass per hour. During outbursts, the rate can reach anywhere between 150 and 200 meteors per hour.
For the best view head down to Al Quadra desert where the Dubai Astronomy group will be hosting a viewing of the occurrence from 10pm until 4am. Tickets are priced at AED150 for adults and AED70 for kids. Tickets include educational talks, presentations about the event and the chance to view Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, stars, globular clusters, nebula through the group’s telescopes.

Facts about the Perseid meteor shower
- Perseids are made of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are named after the constellation Perseus.
- It is one of the brightest meteor showers of the year. They occur every year between July 17 and August 24 and tend to peak around August 9-13.
