New Minecraft Earth takes the game mobile

Ever walked through a street and thought a cool (yet blocky) structure would set up perfectly there? Minecraft fan or not? There’s some exciting news coming your way.

Microsoft recently released the official trailer for Minecraft Earth, a free-to-play augmented reality game for your smart phone, in the same vein as 2016’s hit game Pokémon GO.

Check out the trailer below:

Clearly, this isn’t a simple Minecraft port, as players will be able to go out and be able to build structures, meaning you can view them at a life-size scale. Oh. And of course there will be all the Minecraft creatures and collectibles.

Coming on both iOS and Android, players will first start out simple – to collect a host of resources by breaking down real-life objects like trees. Just like the original Minecraft, except players doing all the walking around.

Gaming features include ‘Adventures’, which act as mini-games that will see players encounter swarms of enemies to deal with along with breakable bit of environment.

There’s also ‘Build Plates’, giving players the ability to build and construct anything from a chair to a huge building, and project it into the real world to see how it looks. Real-life Minecraft? That sounds like a dream.

Just like Pokémon GO, it’s also all about the social multiplayer aspect. Players will get to see structures from other nearby players, along with the chance to team up and take on a stack of enemies. Good luck, zombies.

While no official release date has been stated, there is a closed beta that anyone can sign up for right here. The beta is slated to go live during summer.

In the meantime, check out our preview for Trover Saves The Universe before you go off and buy it when it comes out on Friday May 31.

We expect a lot of people on the streets when it finally releases.
