The world’s first ropeless lift will be on show at Dubai Expo next year
An elevator without pulleys? Think moving staircases in 'Harry Potter' or the magical glass lift in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.
Something not unlike this has now been unveiled by the company Thyssenkrupp Elevator, and is set to feature at Dubai Expo in 2020.
This lift, dubbed the Multi lift, uses magnetic technology instead of traditional ropes to move you both vertically and horizontally around. The Multi was first displayed to the public in Rottweil, Germany, in 2017, and the UAE is soon to experience it.
The removal of ropes means that multiple lifts will occupy a single shaft at any one time, reducing the time people must wait for a ride and also cutting down the amount of energy used by the building itself. Plus, with no moving parts, stepping into the lift will essentially feel like you are floating seamlessly through the air.
Whether it makes you feel excited or a little sick to your stomach, there’s no doubt that the Dubai Expo will be in for a treat next year with this ingenious invention.
