Man scales crane in Dubai Marina without a harness

Ever since James Kingston posted a video of himself hanging from a crane in Dubai Marina, we’ve been following his death-defying antics. On his latest trip to the emirate, the free-climber decided to scale Marina 101 – the world’s tallest residential building… But things didn’t quite go to plan.

After reaching the top of the building, James started to climb up the crane, without realising that the crane driver was about to start his shift. In the video he explains: “I was at the top of this crane, it was all peaceful and nice. And then suddenly the crane starts powering up. It starts twisting. So I start to climb down and see that the crane driver is inside his little cabin and was driving the crane. So I said hello to him, he was such a nice guy. I asked him if I could climb up to the top and he said yes. So here we are on the greasiest crane in the world.”

He made his way back and asked the driver if he could stop the crane while he climbed on it. The driver was fine with his request and asked him for a quick picture before he went on his way.

In the description of the video, he says, “I came across a few workers on the way up who wished me a good day and shook my hand. The workers in Dubai seem to mostly be from India and are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met.”

If you’re wondering, like we did, what his mother thinks of these dangerous “free-climbing” videos, he says that she fully supports him. We tweeted him to clear up our office debate after his last trip to Dubai and he responded, “She trusts me & is happy that I’m happy J”
