In a city as popular with expats as Dubai, it comes as little surprise that the emirate has been ranked #1 in the region for quality of living. Dubai came top of Mercer’s 18th annual Quality of Living survey for the 11th year running.
The survey includes a total of 230 cities across the world, placing Dubai at number 75 globally and number one in the region (including Africa and the Middle East). As for Abu Dhabi, it’s right behind Dubai at number two in the region and #81 across the world.
However, there is one important area that Abu Dhabi comes first on – safety. According to Mercer, safety is one of the most important factors for companies to consider when sending employees abroad. Abu Dhabi comes in at number one for safety in the region and #23 globally. Dubai is slightly behind, coming in at #3 (behind Muscat) in the region and #40 across the world.
At the other end of the scale, Baghdad comes in as the lowest ranking city in the region as well as worldwide.
